Lemmings

In this conversion from the huge Amiga game, guide as many Lemmings as you can through 60 levels and get them to the exit using skills like climbing, bashing, floating, digging and the ultimate last resort - nuke them! You can?t control the Lemmings, just what they do, so you can?t stop them falling down large pits by changing their direction so make sure you use the right skill at the right time and be careful, because you get a limited number of chances to use the particular skill. Added to that, there is a time limit, Lemmings can go fast through a level but there is a password system to get you to later.

Graphics

Everyone knew that the cpc had/has large pallette and this is the perfect game to show it off, comparing it to the C64 and spectrum versions the CPC wins hands down. Everything from the 16bits is here and it almost looks as good, the mode 2 graphics are a little blocky but the little lemmings still look great and are well animated. The only thing missing is the animated intro.

Sound

464 and 664 owners suffer a lot here, the 6128 version has fantastic music almost as good as the original. They?re all here too as far as I can tell, they?re all catchy tunes too! and if that wasn?t enough for you there are even sound effects for running out of steps on the ladder to the "oh no!" when they die and a little pop (even though it?s obviously not sampled speech or anything, just two bleeps)

Gameplay

If I was being picky i would say this is slow. Well in truth it is sluggish, the cursor moves too slow for my liking and the lemmings are in no way fast enough to troulbe you as much as the 16 bit versions do, but somehow it?s still just as fun! The levels scroll quite smoothly too although it?s not pixel by pixel scrolling is does not slow down for you, infact the game is just the same speed with 20 lemmings running around as it is with none, so to sum up a little slow but still just as fun!

Hats off to Psynosis for an obsolute cracker of a port. It would have been easy for them to do a quick spectrum port considering this game appears on about 20 different formats. Everything is as good as the Cpc can handle and goes to show would could have been if the cpc lasted a little longer. (may we have seen street fighter 2?) This is quite possibly the best CPC game ever.
