Another film licence from Ocean. I first watched the film when it came out on video in 1988, thanks to my aunt letting me watch it age 9.

In Detroit in the near future, officer Alex Murphy is the 32nd officer to be killed by criminal Clarence Bodicker. OCP, the company who runs the Detroit Police Department takes what is left of Murphy and turns him into Robocop, half-man, part-machine, all cop. Fight crime in Detroit and avenge your death.

Graphics

MODE 0 graphics are used here but the detail isn?t very good, although characters like Robocop and ED-209 are reconisable. Most of the levels are 2D although two of them are 3D levels seen through the eyes of Robocop and another level is a computer identigraph where Robocop tries to identify a suspect.

Sound

128k machines are treated to digitised speech before gameplay and all versions have music. No sound effects though. The music is quite good and the speech is very good quality.

Gameplay

This is a very good game, but I don?t want to play it again and again.. There are three types of gameplay - sideways scrolling, an Operation Wolf type level and a match-the-picture level. The game plays well and the controls are very good.

Overall:

A good film licence but not the best game in the world.
