Ghouls N Ghosts is an arcade classic by the mighty Capcom who later brought us games such as Street Fighter 2 and Resident Evil (both highly rated games) and many more.

Back in the days when this game was released we had never heard of such things as CPS1 and CPS2 emulation because it simply could not be done on the low end computers we had back then (compared to the giants we have now) so we had to make do with the computer conversion by Capcom themselves. This game sets you in the steal boots of a mighty warrior who has been sent out into the woods to get rid of the vial and nasty ghouls and ghosts that have been terrorising people and taking over the world.

With the tragic conversion of Bionic Commando does this game actually deserve reviewing, well you will find out below but lets just say that Capcom cleaned up their act with the introduction of a new distribution team behind them known as Software Creations.

Graphics

This is another arcade that I regularly pumped 10 pence coins into down at the local arcade and always when the fair was on - those were the days eh!? but in between playing the original arcade I had a little go on the Amstrad version in the comfort of my own bedroom.

The graphics are very good indeed and both colour and level design fit the arcade style very well, there are little changes between the original game and the conversion. Our hero does get a little lost at times when he looses his armour and is stripped to his underwear, this is mainly because of the colours used for his skin and those used for the mountain levels later on (take a look at the screens).

Sound

Sound is much better then the awful Bionic Commando that was released earlier as Capcom have actually added some instead of just giving the game a soundtrack. The arcade theme has been transferred to the computer pretty well and it?s a little funky.

Gameplay

Gameplay is great providing you were extremely good at the arcade because it?s a little hard for younger gamers and those with little patience. If you die half way through a level you are shoved back at the start again, if you die at the end level guardian you are shoved back in the middle of the level again - it all gets a little annoying but it?s nothing to do with the conversion but the game itself.
