Here is another strange game from developers "Dinamic" that sits you in the rather uncomfortable seat of a buggy armed to the pistons with millitary weapons, bullet proof armour and of course the worlds best driver behind the wheel you must destroy the advancing enemy before you end up on the scrap heap.

Graphics

Buggy Ranger does offer some highly detailed graphics with some great colours to enhance the war torn town that you drive around in. The enemies are pretty well animated and vary from stage to stage pretty nicely, attack waves are varied enough to make the game a little less predictable than some other shoot-em-ups like this.

The game is pretty slow though and does suffer from a few strange bugs, we found ourselves trapped in a corner after about 20 minutes of play and the only way to fix this was to reboot the CPC and start from the beginning of the game again. This will no doubt cause major problems if it occurs in later levels of the game as I don?t think your average games player will want to reboot and start again after they have battled so hard to get were they are.

Sound

Sound is fairly nice though, we are treated to another set of funky music tracks at the front of the game and a whole range of effects, bangs and gun-shots for the game itself. This is far more than the game deserves so I would say Dinamic put a fair amount of effort into this one.

Gameplay

Now, because the game is so painfuly slow and a little hard to control, well very hard to control to be honest, it?s not going to be an award winner in anyones books.

Everything is controlled by one joystick, this includes, firing, jumping, speeding up and slowing down, detaching the head of your buggy and reataching later in the game. This of course is very frustrating as lets not forget that joysticks back in the C64 and CPC days only featured one button and the standard direction pads, unlike todays 8-10 button pads.

If you are frustrated easily then this is best left alone, in fact even if you have the patience of a saint this will no doubt push you to the limit and might be worth leaving alone.
