Scanline is an effect existing in CRTC used by Wolfenstrad demoSeen also at begin of R-Typeee ("stereo soundtrack" message's picture), and seem also used in a lot of recent demos as "flipping lace" effect.
It is also a simple visual effect to enable/disable, making games looking like old CRT monitors.
