The story is surprisingly easy.

Amstrad wanted to create a portable text processor and had some ideas. They went to Japan, talked to Nakajima and they got offered the Nakajima ES-210 which ticked all the boxes and could be customized both externally and internally.

So Amstrad thought it was the better option and they got it in black and with some coloured keys and a Z80 processor.

The Dream Writer NTS 325 has a different CPU (8088 clone) and so a completely different software (of course). It was probably an interesting time, when you could share the same case/display/keyboard/most if the mainboard while using either an 8bit Z80 or a 16bit x86.

I can check that as I have all NC models and almost all, if not all, Dreamwriter models. 

But as far as I remember the boards were the same

So, the Najakima ES-210 has a V20 board, while the NCs have redesigned boards with the Z80 processors, then the DreamWriter 225 is a rebranded NC100 and later DreamWriter models sport new PCBs labeled ES-220 Issues 1.1 and 2.2...
