Demo in todays definition:
- non commercial
- made by enthusiast just for fun
- show effects, which do more things like these typical (basic) type-ins from the old times

I found this for the Atari 8bit:

It's from 1986 and could already been defined as a "demo".
Did we have something like this on the CPC as well already at this time?

The ABBUC was founded in 1985.
There are probably older demos.

Seems, that NWC made his first "intro" in 1987.

The demo that came with the 464  :D

Honestly though the first real demo i saw was on the Amiga, probably the Red Sector Demo Creator, and a lot of cracktro's of course.
6128 for the win!!!

I think Hicks is the person to give an answer to the (title) question as he has been doing research for his Memory Full book(s); although I do believe there has been some controversy. Longshot has been making a lot arguments on his blog regarding the claims made in the book. Sadly since Memory Full is only in French I cannot build a complete opinion over things.

I remember when I saw first time the "demo" of an Amstrad.., the one that came along the computers.., just staring at the colors and the sound...

Early 1985...

The demo scene evolved out of cracking - so what was the earliest crack intro for the CPC?

Not a full demo and probably a bit late in the day (1986) but worth seeing anyway....

The YT comments are also interesting.

There's another contender, even if it's not very good looking.
But it was non-commercial, made for fun and contains some effects like rasters and even hardware-scrolling :)
