Bryce: Why do you cut the red wire for the Plus? (I haven't cut it IIRC and it works well).

@beaker

1: Thanks for the detailed information on the black box version of the HxC floppy emulator. I will bear that in mind. I have seen Bryce's mod and it looks excellent and I might be tempted to try that method also but I was just being lazy wanting an already made model.  :D

2: Yes I was planning to use the Floppy emulator for my 464. Thanks for the link to that thread, very interesting read indeed.

I am also planning to use it for my Sinclair ZX Spectrum +3 and my Amiga 1200.

I went to the website for the HxC floppy emu. I am gutted that it doesn't have support for my other retro computers such my Sinclair QL or my Acorn Electron with Plus 1 interface.

@Bryce

Thanks for the additional information on the making of the multi-cable. I shall check out Maplin for the parts needed, this will make switching between machines easier.

Many thanks.  :D

Kind regards,
Michael

I guess, correct me if I'm wrong, that you need a floppy controller for the QL and the Electron with Plus 1.

I've seen QL's with 3.5" drives attached, so you can use the HxC instead. As for the Electron, the floppy support was via the plus 3 expansion which had a 3.5" drive or via a controller cartridge to be fitted onto the plus 1 cartidge slots.

So it's not like the HxC doesn't work with QL or Electron, but you are missing a link there.

Bryce

@TFM: If you don't remove the red wire then you can't insert the cable in the correct position. You may have made the change at the floppy end (which wouldn't involve cutting the red wire), but then it would be more complicated to connect the Classic CPC and Spectrum connectors. This is the easiest way if you want all three connectors on one cable.

Has anyone here connected there HxC to an Acorn Electron? Does it work? I haven't tried this yet, I know the HxC supports ADL, but I don't have a Plus 3, so I am going to have to go the Plus 1 + Homemade circuit route.

Bryce.

I also have an electron with plus 1, so I'd be interested in such interface. Specially if it's easy enough for my dumb finger to mount  ;)

Yes, it has to be electrolytic, but any voltage value from 10V upwards is fine, which is also practical, because it easily fits inside the SCART connect. But make sure you solder it the right way around.

Bryce.

I hope you don't mind if I ask in an old thread: this capacitor is drawn as being close to the SCART connector. Do you think it matters if it's soldered near or in the SCART vs. the DIN 6, or it doesn't matter? I am not sure if the impedance of the cable may have any effect or not, though I am guessing no.

It does not matter where it is fitted. The reason for being at the SCART end, is just because this is normally a more convenient location.
