Extended RAM Softwares

This article is to deal with softwares that actually use the Extra RAM banks as featured in the CPC6128 or amsttrad 6128Plus, or any 464 or 664 settings with Standard Memory Expansions.

The title of this article is open to debates and may be changed once a proper term is found.

HISTORY IN THE MAKING

Common Beliefs

Despite the short lived CPC664, the Amstrad 8 bit ranges are divided into 464 and 6128.

It is an old Debate to tell wether the Extra RAM is to be used or not.

And from countries to other, many Amstrad user's actually have only 64K configurations...

The moot point was that 6128 was useless as only a small little handfull of softwares actually used it, thus only the Demoscene and hardcore coders could see any advantage in it.

But actually no one knew how many softwares actually used the extra RAM banks nor how ? in which purpose ?

Modern Scene production

As put in evidence when RickDangerous 128+ was released.

Some users complained that they only had a 464+ and couldn't run the game.

But Fano (Eastereggs team) shown the Amstrad world that the proper use of the extra RAM Bank could lead to radical improuvement in Games.


Many Demoscener also consider the 6128 configuration to be the minimum.


StarSabre lead to some debate wether it should be only 64K or get a better 128K version, and got it.

The debate is also on wether should a production use even more than 128k Ram or not.

A difficult Task

To set the definitive and complete list was then a necessity as so many Flamewars featuring Speccyfanz and C64fanz implied that the power of the CPC6128 was a Chimera and that "only perhaps 10 softwares maximum" did actually use it.

This list was done by Kukulcan (with little help from friends : Hi Hermol !) on the Website CPCpower after the topic was launched at CPCrulez's Forum on an idea from MacDeath.. (See links at the end of this page)

It is sorted in alphabetical order and in French at the moment.

It is to be perhaps sorted with more subcategory to fit the CPCwiki..
