Wow, no interest at all? Weird...

robcfg

It's not lack of interest, it's lack of time  :D

I'm pretty sure I'll be getting the DVD's as soon as I get not-too-busy I'll tell you.

Great work!

Cpcmaniaco

Robcfg, I have all of them and probably are the same.

When we see again tell me and I will prepare you a copy.

Gryzor

Well, you can see online which scans they are and compare. Of course, I wouldn't mind at all if others helped with the distribution, let's just not duplicate the effort :)

ChaRleyTroniC

This is all ridiculously good - cheers, Gryzor!

What should we do about interlinking between the wiki and the magazine scans? It would be excellent to cross-reference, say, a wiki page about a game to the pages in AA where the game was reviewed, and also to the adverts. Maybe a Mediawiki template?

Gryzor

Heya mate, thanks for your kind words :)

I'm not really sure what you mean, though: my idea was that we could link normally to the scans, through the [http://....] tag.

WHat would the template include? Would there be a reason for one?

Btw, I was thinking - would there be any interest in sharing the entire CPC collection discussed in the Zone, through the server or DVDs?

Cheers
Gryzor

ChaRleyTroniC

Three reasons for using a template.

1. It's actually easier: you just say {{AA|117|p32}} and it links to it.
2. If the scans move, you don't have to change every single link - you just update the template.
3. You can add extra functionality if you want. So you might decide to have a link to (purely for the sake of argument) a discussion thread about that issue of AA. No problem - just code it in the template.

Gryzor

AH yes, I see what you mean. However we'd have to make sure all three magazines and all their issues follow the same naming conventions, which I know is not true... :(

Great !

Any chance that the Danish "Amstradbladet" will be uploaded too ?

Gryzor

Hm, if I had it, I would upload it... sorry :(

ZilogMonkey

Hi Gryzor

I have the hires scanns of the danish mag: Amstrad Bladet ..

Where can I upload them?

/ZilogMonkey

Gryzor

Heya mate, well, I'm afraid that there's no easy way... :( Because of the past attacks on the server the FTP is not accessible outside my VPN so I can't give you access... :( Only solutions that I see is if you upload them someplace else (Rapidshare?) or if you send me the DVDs...

Or would you prefer me to look for another ftp server?

It would REALLY be nice to have AB on board!

Great work getting those Turkish CPC mags online:

http://cpcwiki.eu/index.php/Sizin_Amstrad

Had a great time browsing through some issues of Sizin Amstrad.. Amazing how much I understand from those mags even though I cannot read a word Turkish.

Thanks to Alcofribas and Gryzor for their effort!

Are the magazines down now?

When I visit the link from the Wiki to any of the magazine archives there's no file list - http://www.cpcwiki.eu/mags/index.php?dir=AA/

:(

Gryzor

Well. The mags were taken down because of lots of leeching. It's very sad, isn't it?

Maybe we can discuss uploading them again now on the new server... Markus? :)

Of course, you can always order the DVDs from me - I only charge for the cost of the disks and postage, and this means a total of maybe 6 euros...

Nreive

It's sad to hear about people leeching the mags.  It would be great to have them back online somewhere though.

Incidently, does anyone know who scanned the Amstrad Action mags and where they can be found/contacted?  I'm looking to get in touch with them in regards to editing their work in the future (straightening pages, removing blemishes, etc.).

I'm not too sure about doing this.  Not only would the mags not be archived nicely online, but I'm pretty sure Future Publishing wouldn't be too pleased.

BitTorrent would be nice, but we'd have to have leechers to keep seeding them...

Does anyone know of a good system to avoid leeching, then?
