I think the ACU Type-ins project is working well here.

I briefly considered utilitising both, but then realised that my workload to complete (and maintain) the project would be significantly increased.

Unfortunately I only have time to work on the version on my website.

[EDIT] Actually yes, I've thought about it, and I can utilise both.
What I think I will do is to provide a page here which links to each ACU issue's page on my website. Then it can still be part of cpcwiki, to a limited extent.

[EDIT #2] I just realised that I can use the project's front page here, as is!
All I have to do is point the links to my website, instead of to pages on the wiki. So the front-end to the project will still look the same here.

EVERYBODY WINNAR!!!111

[EDIT #3] Except no, I can't.  :(
I get the following when I try to put an external link onto the page:

Your edit includes new external links. To help protect against automated spam, please type the two words you see in the box below:

This reCAPTCHA key isn't authorized for the given domain.

I realise that editing the wiki should be avoided at the moment, but hopefully when editing is ok again, this'll be taken care of too.

Hello mate,

Let me address your points:

-The wiki is never going down in the sense that (I take it) you fear - even if I ever withdraw from the scene I will pass it on to someone else as I've stated several times
-Yeah, sorry about the short downtime, that was, of course, out of our hands :) But the same can happen with any provider...
-I'll try find a multiple-file upload solution to make work easier (it hasn't worked in the past).

Now, of course, noone can force you to continue updating the wiki pages. I guess you can also take down the material (although, legally, I think it belongs to the wiki, I always felt that the contributions belong to the contributors, not to the resource itself). But: the point of the CPCwiki is to bring all knowledge together, even if it means duplicating it...

If you decide to move it to your own project page, I will give it all the support/promotion I can from within the wiki, with many thanks for the wonderful job you've done. But first, I'd suggest that we worked out the difficulties... Like the CAPTCHA. Had no idea. Can you give me some step-by-step instructions of what you're trying to do?

Thanks :)

Hi Themis.

Have no fear - I won't be removing any content from the wiki.
I have way too much respect for the wiki to do something like that.  :)

What I think I will do is keep things the way they are here, but also provide links to the pages on my website, from this page:
http://cpcwiki.eu/index.php/ACU_Type_Ins

Perhaps I'll call them "old link" and "new link" or something. Not sure yet...

Anyway, as an example of what I'm trying to do...
I'd like to put this onto http://cpcwiki.eu/index.php/ACU_Type_Ins:

http://www.users.on.net/~ervin/page2.html

And that raises the CAPTCHA problem.
Am I doing something wrong?

Incidentally, I'm perfectly happy for my html version of the project to be mirrored here in its entirety, if that is actually possible. What do you think? Would that work?

[EDIT] Actually, if a working multiple-upload facility could be provided, it'd be easier and quicker for me to continue the project here rather than on my own webpage, in which case I wouldn't need to use links to an external site.
Cripes, I must sound terribly confused!  :-\

Hmphhhhhh I'm trying to resolve the ReCaptcha module problem. It's due to the domain change - the keys I had set up were only valid for the old domain (as a precaution). I changed the keys, but can someone test it? I'm getting an Open Socket error - most likely that's caused by the server rather than the module, but I'd like to know if I'm the only one?

I do have a solution to add external links without requiring the Captcha module, but the problem will persist in other actions where anti-spam is required... so plase do let me know if you're getting the same error.

Off to see if there's a multiple-file solution :)

Ok, Multiple Uploads working again, with a minor(?) issue: when you upload the files, the shown page will be empty. But your files have been uploaded with their proper filenames. I tried it with:

http://cpcwiki.eu/index.php/Image:Metal.png
http://cpcwiki.eu/index.php/Image:pq_portraits_icon.png
http://cpcwiki.eu/index.php/Image:PacInTimeSheet2.gif

and it seems to work fine. Would you care to test it and tell me if it works for you, too? :) Also, tell me whether 5 uploads are enough or not for you...

[EDIT] I fixed the empty page. It's not very helpful as it is, but that's what the extension offers... at least it does tell you the file was uploaded correctly!

ervin

Ah, thanks Themis.
I'll give multiple uploads a go in a day or two.
If they work nicely, I think I'll resume the project on cpcwiki.

Gryzor

Good :)

OTOH, and I want to stress this point, if you want/decide to withdraw the project from here and set up a new resource, I won't hold a grudge against you! :D

Ygdrazil

Hi Ervin

I think the type-ins project is soo cool and a I hope it stays on the WIKI!

;D Don't worry. I won't be withdrawing the project from here!
That would be a very dishonourable thing to do.

/Ygdrazil

Thanks Ygdrazil. You have nothing to fear.
And I've sorted out and simplified a lot of the stuff I was doing, so updates should be much more frequent from now on.

Also, I've reinstated the link in my sig to the cpcwiki version of the project.

ervin

Alrighty, I've resumed updates and have added more content to April 1985.
(I added The Musical Amstrad part 2).
Unfortunately, the images I uploaded (whether by single or multi-upload) don't seem to be working via the normal style of coding.

In fact, when I uploaded the images, I got this message:
Warning: imagepng() [function.imagepng]: SAFE MODE Restriction in effect. The script whose uid is 10363 is not allowed to access /var/www/vhosts/cpcwiki.eu/httpdocs/images/thumb/6/6b/Acu_music2.png owned by uid 48 in /var/www/vhosts/cpcwiki.eu/httpdocs/includes/media/Bitmap.php on line 217

Gryzor

Ah crap. This is a host issue.

Markus, can you help? It appears that your host has enabled safe mode for PHP. Do you have access to php.ini? If so, can you add the following?

safe_mode = Off

If we can't do that I do have a couple of workarounds, but they're precarious - they might break other things. So let's wait for Marku's reply...

Thanks for bringing this to my attention!

ervin

Hi Gryzor.

Just wondering if there has been any luck solving this issue?
I'm itching to add more content to the project.  :)

Devilmarkus

safe_mode cannot be turned off...
It's called safe mode, because many things are much safer than without safe mode  ;D

That makes perfect sense and is completely understandable.
But how do I upload images and then have them display in the wiki?
The old method isn't working anymore.

As an example, I'm using the following code to display a screenshot, but it is causing the safe_mode warning message:

Safe mode is actually a lot of bull crap. It's so wrong that the PHP devs have dropped it from the latest versions. In their own admittance, safekeeping should NOT be done at PHP level - what they do is cover for mistakes in other system config areas. It's like disabling POST in apache in order to prevent code injection*. See here. I wonder if the host could be persuaded to upgrade their PHP version - I've seen providers that do that.

Anyhow, apologies for the delay, hectic past few days here :( I'll try a workaround or two. But what I don't get is why I *can* upload images - I tested it before announcing it, and with an account with no admin privileges, no less :(

Oh, also, I see that I left the debug notifications on, apologies about that - you shouldn't see these errors :D

*example may be totally shite, I'm just saying...

Gryzor

Ah crap... I uploaded a test image, and posted it here: http://cpcwiki.eu/index.php/Test . It appears fine!!!!! But the image you uploaded does not (broken placeholder before the chimpanzee)

So I downloaded your image and uploaded it again, and now it appears on the page above (after the chimpanzee)!!! WTF?

So I need you to tell me *exactly* what you did - can you? You can contact me via MSN or google talk if you want and we'll do it real-time...

ervin

Hi Gryzor.

Here's what I did:
- click Multiple File Upload in sidebar on cpcwiki front page
- browse to relevant files (in this case acu_music2.png, acu_music3.png, acu_music4.png)
- click Upload File button

The next page that appears has all this at the top:

Warning: imagepng() [function.imagepng]: SAFE MODE Restriction in effect. The script whose uid is 10363 is not allowed to access /var/www/vhosts/cpcwiki.eu/httpdocs/images/thumb/6/6b/Acu_music2.png owned by uid 48 in /var/www/vhosts/cpcwiki.eu/httpdocs/includes/media/Bitmap.php on line 217

ervin

For a single file upload I do the following:
- click Upload File in the sidebar on the cpcwiki front page
- browse to the file (in this case acu_music2.png)
- even before I click any other buttons, the following appears at the bottom of the page:

Warning: imagepng() [function.imagepng]: SAFE MODE Restriction in effect. The script whose uid is 10363 is not allowed to access /var/www/vhosts/cpcwiki.eu/httpdocs/images/thumb/6/6b/Acu_music2.png owned by uid 48 in /var/www/vhosts/cpcwiki.eu/httpdocs/includes/media/Bitmap.php on line 217

Hi Gryzor & Devilmarkus.

Can I ask a favour?
Would one of you please remove the following files from the wiki's file repository?

acu_music2.png
acu_music3.png
acu_music4.png
acu_mus2.png
acu_mus3.png
acu_mus4.png

There seems to be something going on with acu_music2 (and 3 and 4) that is causing those safe mode errors.
I don't get the errors for other file uploads.
Really weird...  ???

Once they are gone, I'll try re-uploading them.
(And I'll recreate the screenshots as well).

Ygdrazil

Hi Ervin

Nice to see your type ins project coming along!

I got the same problem!  :-\ This problem is due to a file permission setting on the new server. Theres probably nothing wrong with your files  :D

I know the CPCWIKI team is working to resolve this matter!

I'm on it... my guess is, those images were uploaded during some config experimentations and they don't work now. I'm having some difficulties with them, but I'm not ignoring it :)

Gryzor

Don't mention it, but can I ask something? Can't you just reup them under slightly different filenames?
